Happy Friday friends!

;

Hope your week was well, mine was short as I came home from Maryland Monday night so I missed a day of work. (More on that trip here.)  We got back late and just jumped into the rest of the week. It actually worked pretty well this time because I prepped meals for work before the trip so we would not come home to a house without food. I also made sure we were stocked on supplies for our morning smoothies so we could jump right back into that habit. Of course now we are out of food so I will have to get around to doing some shopping this morning.

Did you see my Instagram post Thursday about audiobooks? Well, I love them. If you are looking to try out audiobooks or ebooks (for yourself or kids) from your library, DO IT. Almost ALL libraries offer these services and they are free with no late fees or anything. The best part? Once you have your card and everything you can access them from all over the world. Perfect for summer traveling. Oh, and I doubt you’ll lose the book when it is on your phone!

In my most recent Ipsy bag I received a new concealer by Kokie Professional. It is a brightening concealer and I love it. The best part? I just found out it is super inexpensive. WIN. Have you tried Ipsy?  I have a few codes for free bags, send me an email at amberdownsblog@gmail.com if you’d like one.

I have ordered my new Agendio planner and can’t wait for it to arrive. I’ll  post about it when it arrives, but until then you can check out my Agendio from last year here.

Ok friends, I’m off to work. Have a great weekend!

A few days in Maryland

This past weekend Charlie and I spent some time in the town where Charlie spent most of his childhood. Although we spent most of our time visiting with old friends and driving around his old stomping grounds, we did get to spend a little bit of time exploring in Baltimore on Monday.

I had heard of the Sagamore Distillery and found it intriguing. They make a classic rye whiskey and do tours. We’ve been on tons of brewery tours but hadn’t yet had the chance to tour a distillery so we jumped at the chance. We were also exited to find that there was a Groupon for the experience. Be sure to check for one of you go.

The tour was super informative and because we went early on a Monday morning we were the only people in our tour. We learned all about the process as well as what makes different types of whiskeys.

At the end of the tour we were able to sample the products and found rye whiskey to be pretty good. Now to find some for sale here in Orlando.

Each bottle is hand labeled by the last person to touch it at the distillery. In the visitor center we were able to mark our own bottles. Sadly we were unable to purchase them as we were not checking any bags for our flight.

After the tour we visited Nick’s Fish House on a recommendation from our tour guide. This little harbor-side restaurant was super cute and carried Sagamore cocktails. We enjoyed both an Orange Crush and a Moscow Mule made with their whiskey and are happy to report they were delicious.

Guess what? I had never had raw oysters! Surprised? No? Well I was kinda surprised I hadn’t and when I saw they had them a-la-carte I figured now was the time to try one. My only experience with them was when I was twelve my family visited Key West and my dad ordered and ate a dozen raw oysters and was then in the bathroom for the rest of the night.

Anyhoo, it took me about twenty minutes gather the courage to eat them, and I had to google how to even do it, but I did. I’ll spare you the video proof. Did I like them? I’m still not sure, but I’d be willing to have a few again.

I also had some great crab cake balls. Perfect for Maryland.

By the time we were finished with our meal it was time to head to the airport and go home. Hopefully next time we’re in Baltimore we will have more time to spend. If you have ideas of where we should visit let me know in the comments!

Happy Friday y’all! (Ok, technically I’m posting this on Saturday, so bear with me.)

I love that once piece bathing suits are “in” again. Finally, we can wear something that covers stuff. Yeah, most of them are more skimpy than a bikini, but I have seen some cute stuff this season. Right now I am loving this black one from Target. Those scallops? Adorable. Want to show a little more skin? This one is cute too and has a full coverage bottom.

I just finished The Beauty of Dirty Skin by Whitney Bowe and really connected with a lot of what she said regarding skin, diet, and how it all connects. I will be sharing more about her book in the future, but if you’re into those topics check it out.

Charlie has a gig tomorrow so I am going to do a little bit of summer planting. Generally we are done with most plant-y things by now here in Florida, but I am going to try and put in some hardy plants and see if they stick. I’ll share more about that on Instagram.

Now that the rains have subsided we’ve been swimming every day. I am looking for tips as to how to help my skin cope with the water and chlorine it is getting so much of. Any ideas?

Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!

This week for Travel Tuesday I wanted to share a few of my favorite travel products. These are little things we have that really make our trips better. While we don’t buy tons of “travel stuff” we do have  a few items we love.

First off is this travel pillow.  Before our trip to Europe earlier this year I bought a cheap little travel pillow. It was useless. Charlie bought this one in the airport and it was perfect. It packs down small and really makes sleeping on the plane possible. If you travel often and want to sleep on the plane this pillow is for you. It is a little expensive, but worth it.

We it comes to travel accessories, I like to stick to things that are still part of my usual wardrobe. I love over the shoulder bags, but when traveling, a crossbody feels much safer and is less likely to be grabbed off you. I also always travel with a zippered bag. Although pick pockets  can aways unzip it, it, it just feels like one more line of defense. I carry a bag similar to this one when traveling in unknown places.

Charlie owns a wallet with a removable mini wallet. When we travel we only take the mini wallet with just a few cards, ID and cash. This wallet is nice and small and fits comfortably and safely in his front pocket. We generally keep most cards and cash in this wallet and I only carry a small amount personally just in case we get separated.

When traveling overseas you of course need a travel adapter. I use this one and am happy with it. It has USB charging as well as the others needed.  Please note these travel adapters do not convert voltage, just the shape of the plug. This means that it is fine to charge any device that can accept the given current. In the US our power comes out at 110 volts, but in Europe they are usually 220 volts. Almost all phone and computer chargers are fine accepting 220, but this voltage can ruin many hair appliances that are not made for it. Before traveling check any hair irons or blow dryers you are brining to ensure they will work. (Remember, even if they accept the voltage you will still need an adapter to use them.) As you can see from the photos, I did not take my hair dryer. Some of the places we stayed had one and if they did not I just air dried. Have a great travel dryer? Let me know, I am in the market for one.

This curling iron is fine, it is rated 120-240 V

This dryer is only rated 125 V. I did not bring it to Europe.

This flat iron is rated to 240 V and was fine.

Hooray for a short week being over, right? Things are finally starting to slow down around here and the summer and the rains are still in high gear. We were lucky to have a surprisingly nice Memorial Day and I even got a sunburn. Not great, but very surprising due to the fact that it was shady and windy most of the day. Anyhoo, my mother and I hung out in the pool and she brought over a great summer salad. I have been eating more and more salads lately, and I love how the blueberries in this one liven it up.

I avoided Memorial Day shopping just because I didn’t really need anything. However, I am looking for a new swimsuit. I am looking at either a two piece or a bikini, but I would like something that is a bikini bottom but actually covers my rear end. I am pretty sure I am past this “cheeky” stuff. If you have a favorite store for semi-modest swimwear let me know. I am still totally for  something cute, I just don’t want to fall out of it.

My garden is going pretty good. I can’t wait for these little lemon squash to be done. I have never had them before but I hear they are similar to other summer squash.

I realized the other day that my work planner, an Agendio is almost finished.  I will be ordering a new one soon. I love they have a fully customizable planner builder on their site so you get exactly what you want. You can even have it start whenever you need it to. I will share more once I receive the new one.

Last week for work I did a mini presentation on one of my favorite apps, PicTapGo. Have you used it? It is perfect for image editing on the go. I use it all the time to edit images for the blog or just social media.
