Happy Friday everyone!
Madewell is having a big sale right now for insiders, so I wanted to take the chance to share a few of my favorites of theirs with you. Madewell items can be a little pricy, but are for sure high quality so its worth it sometimes. They don’t have sales often, and when they do usually jeans and leather goods are excluded so this is a bit of a rare deal. The items I am sharing are all ones I have myself and enjoy so you have my seal of approval or something. Note: to get the sale pricing you must be a Madewell Insider. This is totally free to join and with it you get free shipping, returns, personalization, and this sale.
Lets start with bags. I have been using this Medium Transport bag for about a year now and it is still going strong. The leather is thick but also forgiving and is something I know will last for years to come.
I recently grabbed this canvas transport bag because I’ve been looking for a bag that size for my airplane personal item and this one fits the bill. (More on that next week.) They change out the colors here and there, but I have it in a nice blush pink color that works for all seasons.
I think I have finally found my favorite tank. The Madewell Whisper tank is a new favorite. They are the perfect weight and the V-neck is just right for me. I have one in a pink/purple color and ordered one in gray. I really could just get these in all the colors and call it a day.
I just bought these mules and honestly, I am still on the fence about them. I LOVE them as a shoe, I am still not sure about them for ME as I don’t need another pair of brown shoes. But hey, they are comfortable and adorable.
Lastly, I bought this dress recently and I love it. It is a perfect summer/fall transition piece here in the south and wears wonderfully. Dress it up with a cardigan or down with a denim vest or jacket.
Depending on where you live you might feel like spring has already started or like it will never happen. Down here in Florida we are having that one week of perfect 80 degree days before summer starts in March. I generally don’t really have much of a spring wardrobe due to the fact that we don’t have that here, but I have been seeing the cutest stuff this season and I wanted to share some of my favorites. Or maybe this is just a way for me to group stuff I want to buy together for easier shopping later. 😉
First up: Mules. I think I asked over of Instastories if y’all were into mules and I don’t remember a positive response, but guess what? I like them anyways. I LOVE this pair from Madewell, they just seem perfect. Looking for a budget option? This blush pink par from Target are adorable and affordable. I am currently going through my closet finding what I could wear them with. Lastly, I have had this pair from American Eagle in my shopping basket just waiting for the next sale.
Next up: Shorts. Yes, shorts, I am a Florida girl and shorts are pretty much a year round thing. For the last several years I have been getting my shorts from American Eagle. Nice and simple and I always go for a dark wash, lightly distressed mid length cut off like these or these. I wear these in the spring with a tank and a flannel long sleeve shirt or sometimes a cute long sleeve tee.
Have you seen this super cute top from Old Navy? It might be a sleep shirt, but it is perfect for lazy weekends. All about the coffee. I generally stay away from graphic tees as I don’t get much chance to wear them but I love to keep one or two in the closet for the weekends. I like this one and this one from Old Navy as well. I don’t like to spend a ton on that type of thing as they are more of a short term purchase. Bonus: While grabbing those links I saw Old Navy has a ton of local based tees. Check them out to spread some hometown love.
I am a sucker for a good pair of yoga pants and I love the Lululemon Align II pants. They came out with new colors and I am in love with this new color, So Merlot. It is the perfect blush color for spring. I haven’t purchased these because really, I don’t need them, but if I had a casual job or worked from home I would be all over these.
I love a good pair of dark wash denim. I have this pair by J Crew sitting in my stopping cart. A perfect 9 in. inseam and pockets that make your rear look good. I just love how dark denim can be worn with almost anything to any event, day or night.
Ok, Last item is also from J. Crew, this perfect boatneck tee. This is the kind of classic wardrobe staple that you want from a good retailer. Something that will not fade and will last for years. Classics, am I right?
I am going to go ahead and step away from the computer now before I spend my mortgage money. Are you eying anything that I should know about? Let me know in the comments or tag me on Instagram, I’m @_amberdowns
Alright, we are finally midway through November so it is time to start talking holiday outfits. Generally I don’t go too overboard with special clothing, but each year I like to add a few new pieces that feel Christmasy as well as wearable during the year. Here are few items I have either purchased or are eying.
I don’t know when it happened, but Old Navy came out with a new pant style called Stevie. It is a mix between leggings and dress pants and is totally work appropriate. I found this super cute buffalo plaid version of the pant and decided I had to have it for the holidays. I will wear these to our holiday work event and maybe a party or two. They will also be great for church services or a big Christmas dinner as they have lots of stretch. Even if you hate buffalo plaid check them out and see the other colors and prints.
Looking for something a little fancier? I am in love with this take on the little black dress. Perfect for a nicer work party, cocktail party of even New Year’s Eve. (If you decide to leave the house.)
What outfit is complete without a matching phone case? I love swapping out cases depending on my mood and the season. I am eyeing this one. It is fun but still a little classy in case you need to whip it out in a meeting. My current non-holiday favorite case is this one from Amazon.
One of the best ways to dress up an outfit or bring new life into it is via a snazzy handbag. I generally go for very plain muted bags, but something like this really makes an outfit. Pair it with a simple dress for almost any holiday event. Looking for my current go-to everyday bag? It’s this one.
I hope these ideas have given you a little wardrobe inspiration for the holiday. If anything take the time to reevaluate your own closet and see what older items might be able to be styled with newer items to create new outfits. Don’t forget to accessorize!
As a resident of Florida and a basic girl I have the same problem every fall. I want to wear all the cute clothes but I also want to not die from overheating. Everyone on Instagram is going around sharing all these cute sweaters and boots and scarves and I am just sitting here hoping I can make it through the day without sweating through my tank top. I want all the cute things, but I always have to ask myself if it is really practical. Over the last few years I have learned some ways to make fall fashion work in florida.
Lightweight layering pieces
Skip the heavy sweaters and go for light, open sweaters. These can be paired with a tank to give the illusion of layers and fall color but without dying.
Here are a few I like:
Skip the boots for booties or mules
I know those mid-calf boots are adorable but they just don’t get enough fall wear around here. Try simple booties in a light color or mules. Although I have not yet jumped on this new mules trend I plan to get a pair soon, maybe in leopard. The best part? They are slip ons!
If you must wear a scarf, pick a thin breathable option
I opt for light cotton options. These are a little harder to find in the fall, but keep an eye out year round for scarves in fall and all-seasons colors.
Skip the tights
Tights are all the rage with skirts and dresses this time of year, but just skip them and go bare. A denim skirt with booties is a super cute fall look and your legs will thank you. Now that denim skirts are back I am just wishing I still had my old ones from high school.
